"During his tenure as commissioner, Lynn was an ardent
supporter and advocate for wildlife conservation, habitat
management, and improving opportunities to enjoy the
outdoors," said Nebraska Game and Parks Director Jim
Douglas. "Lynn served with passion, dedication and was
always looking for innovative ways to better serve the
public."
Though gone too soon, Berggren's legacy lives on.
Inspired by his commitment to pheasants, The Berggren Plan
was unveiled by the Commission earlier in 2016 and aims
to produce the best pheasant hunting experience possible for
most hunters.
To achieve this goal, the five-year plan will work to grow
Nebraska's pheasant populations and increase hunter access
to lands with abundant pheasants. Other objectives include
increasing the pool of potential pheasant hunters with focus
on youth, and improving the funding and policy related to
the goal of improving pheasant hunting.
In late July, John Laux was hired as the Commission's
upland habitat and access program manager. This position
will help coordinate the delivery of the Berggren Plan and
the agency's other upland game bird conservation efforts
across the state. Laux will also work to expand the Open
Fields and Waters Program to increase public hunting access
