river throughout the state, including
the Niobrara, Calamus and Elkhorn.
JUNE
Early June
•
On the first Saturday of the
month, walk, bike or run on one of
Nebraska's many trails, including
the Cowboy Trail, in celebration of
National Trails Day. Then, continue
this trend throughout the rest of
the year.
•
Catch carp using a fly rod on
mulberry imitations in Platte River
systems.
•
Visit Rock Creek Trail Days at
Rock Creek Station State Historical
Park.
•
Enjoy the camping season
as it enters full swing at one of
Nebraska's many state parks or
recreation areas open to camping.
Mid-June
•
Head to a shotgun range to
sharpen your skills before fall
hunting seasons begin.
Late June
•
Put out trail cameras along
game trails for upcoming deer
season.
•
Spend a summer day lounging
on a sandbar. There are numerous
state parks and recreation areas
and wildlife management areas
across the state on the Platte,
Loup, Niobrara and other rivers that
provide public access points. With
water being diverted for irrigation,
river levels are low, leaving plenty
of places to park your lawn chair.
•
Walk through a prairie and
photograph wildflowers. You
can find wildflowers blooming in
prairies throughout the state from
mid-April until the cold sets in by
November, but for the most variety,
go in June.
•
Swim at the aquatic centers at
Eugene T. Mahoney and Ponca
state parks, or at the pools at
Chadron, Fort Robinson, and Platte
River state parks.
