Watch for great blue herons
fledging. Their rookeries are easily
identified as a grouping of large
nests in the tops of tall trees near
water, including Lake Ogallala SRA
and Jeffrey Lake WMA.
Late July
•
Stargaze at Merritt Reservoir
State Recreation Area, one of the
nation's top locations for viewing
the night sky.
•
Tune your bow and start
shooting for the upcoming archery
deer and fall turkey seasons.
•
Find monarch butterfly eggs on
milkweed plants, and track their
metamorphosis from egg through
the caterpillar stages to a butterfly.
The entire process takes about 4-6
weeks for the monarchs laying eggs
in Nebraska.
