OCTOBER 2017 • NEBRASKAland 17

The best open-water fishing of the year is upon us.
Nebraska's fish feed heavily this time of year getting ready
for the hard winter to come and to start developing eggs
and milt for next year's spawn. I notice fish behavior and
fishing patterns transitioning to fall in late August and by
late September the fall bite is definitely on. If you are a
hard-core angler you probably already know this, but if
you are not, you probably should try this time of year.
With less activity and competition on the water, it's the
perfect time to keep your open-water tackle ready a bit
longer. ■
