This male Baltimore oriole was photographed by Rita Flohr north of Grand Island. "This was taken at 8:54 a.m., so we had great morning light," Flohr said. "This guy was all over the place, and I was trying to get his face and eyes, so I ended up with this topsy-turvy shot." JayDee Flohr photographed this melanistic rooster pheasant in the wild north of Grand Island. This variety of ring-necked pheasant is bred commercially and released on private hunting areas for hunters seeking a "specialty" pheasant. "They are marketed as having 'special' characteristics, but they are considered ring-necked pheasants under game law," said Game and Parks Upland Game Program Manager Jeff Lusk. 26 NEBRASKAland • OCTOBER 2017
