Avid nature seekers and outdoor activity lovers travel from all over to experience the Cowboy Trail, which starts in Norfolk and runs 192 miles to Valentine. The multi-purpose limestone trail gives folks a chance to take a walk with their family, go for a bike ride, run or travel on horseback, all while en joying beautiful views. While exploring the trail near Norfolk, you are bound to see hills dotted with farmsteads and long winding rivers lined with tall trees. If you are looking for activities in town be sure to get your history fix at the Elkhorn Valley Museum. This museum hosts permanent and rotating exhibits that focus on the rich history of northeastern Nebraska. One of the permanent exhibits features local and national celebrity Johnny Carson. It also provides a hands-on activity center geared for children ages 2 to 8, so bring the whole family! You can also try brushing up on your family history by using the research center to look through photographs and historical documents. When passing through Norfolk, try to schedule your visit around the first Friday of the month because you do not want to miss the First Friday exhibits at the Norfolk Arts Center. All are welcome to gather and enjoy local and original creations ranging from writing, music, poetry, sculpting and many other forms of art. The best part is that admission is free. After your adventures in Norfolk, dine at a local favorite Black Cow Fat Pig. This pub and steakhouse features cuisine with locally sourced ingredients, a full bar and large outdoor patio.
