T
he workshop at Safari Club
International Foundation's
American Wilderness Leadership
School (AWLS) near Jackson,
Wyoming, has been the host to many
educators from Nebraska.
This year the school will hold six
eight-day educator workshops and one
student workshop.
Nestled in the beautiful Bridger-
Teton National Forest, the American
Wilderness Leadership School provides
the perfect atmosphere for educational
programs.
Established in 1976 with the vision
of providing educators with useful
hands-on experiences that they can
bring home to their classrooms, AWLS
has provided an accredited conservation
education program for more than 6,000
teachers who reach more than a million
students annually, while the student
workshop has provided a challenging
experience for more than 1,700 high
school students.
The AWLS school offers hands-
on lessons focused around the
North American Model of Wildlife
Conservation as well as engaging
take-home lessons on conservation
education that have been integrated
into K-12 math, science, language
arts, social studies and physical
education.
At AWLS, educators learn to
effectively use the outdoors as a
classroom while participating in
fun, exciting activities including an
introduction to shooting sports.
In addition, content-relevant field
trips provide real world experiences
they can take back and share with the
students in their classroom.
The Nebraska Chapter of Safari
Club International has scholarships
available to educators in Nebraska.
