May 2019 • Nebraskaland 61 This photo was taken in 1918 on the family homestead near Inavale in Webster County. Pictured, at right, is my grandpa Cooper (Richard I.). On the left is my great-grandpa Cooper (Allen A.). The story goes that they shot both coyotes with the same shell. This would be my father's dad and grandpa. My father is Richard A. Cooper and he is 88 years old. Also on the Cooper homestead was a sod house where my father was born. My dad and aunts used to talk about snakes and other creatures that would try to go through the outside wall to get inside. My aunt Mable told me she would kill the snakes with a hoe as they were crawling through the wall. – Marla Cooper Wademan, Crete
