Davis Creek has a large amount of crappies more than 10
inches. Fish brushpiles with a bobber and minnow or jig.
June
The year's best open water fishing continues, both on big
and small waters. Fish your favorite lake this month, and
also consider these below.
Merritt Reservoir
Muskie
Mark June 16 on your calendar this year, when the new
moon awakens the state's best muskie fishing. Water is high
in June, and many species of fish will be in weedbeds and
flooded willows feeding on alewives. And muskies will be
feeding on them. Upsize your tackle to target these monsters.
Mid-sized Reservoirs
Bluegill
Look for bluegill beds by walking shorelines at a number
of smaller reservoirs, including Maskenthine, Maple Creek
and Summit SRA. This is a great time for the new fly angler
to tie on a popping bug and watch hungry bluegills strike on
top. For the veteran, put a nymph on a dropper behind your
popper, which then becomes a strike indicator.

Largemouth Bass

Anglers can get lost searching for bass, bluegills and crappies in a forest of dead, standing trees that cover about 90 acres of 662-
acre Lake Wanahoo, one of Nebraska's newest reservoirs, near Wahoo.
