The Coyote mini-lodge at Ponca State Park in northeastern Nebraska shines bright in the
November night, lit by a handheld flash. Canon 1DX, 24-70 mm lens, 33 seconds at f/5.6, ISO
400, bulb, tripod.
The cameras' ISO
number, which
measures the
sensitivity of the
camera's sensor, an
equivalent to what was
film speed in the pre-
digital days, is perhaps
the industry's greatest
development in recent
years. Today, entry-
level cameras have
sensitivities four to
eight times higher than
the ISO 3,200 digital
SLRs sported a decade
ago, and produce
images that are
usable at those high
settings. One of the
newest releases can be
Campers at the inlet of Lake Minatare State Recreation Area fish by the light of lanterns on a calm summer night. Nikon D4, 70-200 mm lens,
1.6 seconds at f/4.5. ISO 5000, manual, tripod.
