The Coyote mini-lodge at Ponca State Park in northeastern Nebraska shines bright in the November night, lit by a handheld flash. Canon 1DX, 24-70 mm lens, 33 seconds at f/5.6, ISO 400, bulb, tripod. The cameras' ISO number, which measures the sensitivity of the camera's sensor, an equivalent to what was film speed in the pre- digital days, is perhaps the industry's greatest development in recent years. Today, entry- level cameras have sensitivities four to eight times higher than the ISO 3,200 digital SLRs sported a decade ago, and produce images that are usable at those high settings. One of the newest releases can be Campers at the inlet of Lake Minatare State Recreation Area fish by the light of lanterns on a calm summer night. Nikon D4, 70-200 mm lens, 1.6 seconds at f/4.5.
