family
can
spend
the
entire
month
of
December
driving
from
one
Platte
Valley
Parkland
to
the
next
without
ever
running
out
of
things
to
do.
Start
inside
at
Ak-sar-ben
Aquarium
to
see
a
collection
of
the
state's
frogs,
fishes
and
the
like,
then
allow
your
young
ones
to
spend
a
little
time
in
the
hands-on
education
room,
complete
with
animal
pelts,
bones
and
even
games
to
play.
Next,
put
on
your
heavy
jacket
for
a
hike
through
Schramm
Park
State
Recreation
Area
or
nearby
Platte
River
State
Park
where
winding
woodland
trails
greet
you
once
you
leave
the
blacktop.
If
being
outside
remains
your
pleasure,
then
travel
north
to
Eugene
T.
Mahoney
State
Park
to
ice
skate
at
the
park's
activity
center,
sled
down
the
toboggan
run
or
hike
through
this
park's
version
of
the
Platte
River
bluffs.
There
is
also
time
for
indoor
activities
nearby
at
the
Strategic
Air
and
Space
Museum.
Their
current
exhibit
is
on
display
until
Jan.
4,
2016,
and
focuses
on
the
mathematics,
science
and
technology
behind
the
game
of
football
–
a
Nebraska
favorite.
Sasmuseum.com
Venture
over
to
the
town
of
Ashland
next
and
visit
their
line
of
shops,
including
the
Glacial
Till
Tasting
Room
(Glacialtillvineyard.com)
and
its
host
of
wines,
or
the
Cooper
Studio
and
Gallery
to
see
original
artwork.
You
must
also
remember
at
least
one
more
thing
–
you
haven't
eaten
yet!
Have
a
bite
to
eat
at
Round
the
Bend
Steakhouse
(Roundthebendsteakhouse.com)
just
south
of
Mahoney,
or
stay
at
Mahoney
and
enjoy
The
Lodge
Restaurant.
For
lodging,
you
can
stay
at
one
of
Platte
River's
cabins
or
at
Mahoney
for
a
campground
stay,
a
cabin,
a
room
in
the
Peter
Kiewit
Lodge
or
even
in
one
of
the
park's
new
four-bedroom
mini-
lodges.
Regardless
of
your
plans,
set
aside
plenty
of
time
for
your
day,
or
days,
in
the
Platte
Valley
Parklands.
