Toadstool Geological Park
Northwestern Nebraska
Dubbed "the Badlands of Nebraska," Toadstool Geological Park
feels otherworldly, like you've been dropped onto the moon.
Creamy sandstone pillars rise from the earth. Rugged outcroppings
trace wavy lines across the sky. Researchers love this site for the
prehistoric fossils captured in the rock.
Low light, particularly at dawn and dusk, really brings this
dramatic landscape to life. Bring hiking boots for the well-marked
one-mile trail loop.

Wood Duck Wildlife Management Area
Northeastern Nebraska
Wood Duck Wildlife Management Area is all about variety.
Here, you can find several different kinds of habitats: wetlands,
oak woodlands and Sandhills-esque plains. "There's something
to photograph year-round," Nguyen said. "The wetland and lake
areas are gorgeous at sunset."
A diverse range of wildlife can be found in the area as
well. Pelicans, cormorants, trumpeter swans and bald eagles
have been spotted here, as well as beavers, muskrats, deer,
pheasants and quail.
