Sutherland State
Recreation Area
Southwestern Nebraska
"This area is great year-round
for bird species," Geiser said.
She explains that the birds are
attracted to the warm water
coming out of a nearby power
plant. "It's always warm and
never freezes over, so they
love that," she said. "I've seen
cormorants, pelicans, blue
herons, bald eagles and so
many varieties of waterfowl."
Beyond the birds, there are
other draws for shutterbugs at
the Sutherland State Recreation
Area. "The scenery is nice on
the shorelines and tree areas,
and you can photograph mule
deer near the reservoir," Geiser
said. "Spring and summer
is a great time for capturing
photos of people and outdoor
recreation as well."
Medicine Creek State Recreation Area
South-central Nebraska
Medicine Creek State Recreation Area is a natural choice
for landscape photography. It's a quiet, very green area, with
tranquil blue water and plenty of mature trees and grassy areas.
Gorgeous dawns and dusks are frequent. Keep an eye out for
numerous animals and birds, including deer, turkeys, hawks,
owls, songbirds, osprey, eagles and waterfowl.
