E
very deer season comes with anticipation. Regardless
of how many times trail cameras have been checked,
or how much field scouting has been done, there's no
telling what's going to happen when a hunter walks
into the field on opening morning.
But what happens if a hunter is not there? What happens if
a person interested in getting started puts off this outdoor rite
of passage for another year?
Below are a few examples of hunters who didn't put off
their first hunts for another season, those whose outdoor
memories now include the blow-by-blow account of what
happened last year when they killed their first deer. Oh, what
stories they are.
So enjoy these few examples from last season, start your
own by visiting Outdoornebraska.org for a permit, and then
send your images and story to nebtrailcam@gmail.com. ■
My First Deer
By Jeff Kurrus
Don't wait another year.
Matthew Post, age 12, shot his first deer, a 4x4 mulie, with a
Remington 700 .243 rifle.
Chris Clemens got his first deer at age 52 on Nov. 15, 2015, near
O'Neill. He was beyond proud of his buck.
William Culjat, age 14, took his first deer near Comstock. He is
pictured here with his uncle Joe.
On Nov. 21, 2015, Emma Berry shot her first deer, a mulie, in
Chase County.
