Newspaper Needs Dear NEBRASKAland, I just read your article in the May issue of the magazine. As a young boy in Boy Scouts, we enjoyed cold weather camping. My father told me that before going to sleep at night to wrap my feet in newspapers for insulation and put bread sacks over them. As a kid, I thought that was the weirdest thing I've ever heard. But my feet were always warm and toasty. Also, at home nothing works better for cleaning windows than a newspaper instead of paper towels or a cotton cloth. There are no streaks and no bits of fabric. I also use newspapers to help caps, hats and even Halloween masks to keep their form. I really enjoyed the article. Jeff Haverkamp Kearney, Nebraska LaVerne James of North Platte took this photo of a windmill and rainbow a few miles northwest of town. Kody Brown from Lincoln shared this photo on Facebook of a barred owl. "It was a cold morning at Pioneers Park, and this owl was just watching me," Brown said. 4 NEBRASKAland • JUNE 2017
