Joel Jorgensen, Game and Parks nongame bird program manager, advises avoiding cheap feeders, as they tend to leak and attract wasps and bees; cleaning the feeder every few days; and putting in an ant moat fi lled with water between the feeder and whatever you're hanging it from (some feeders will already have this feature). He also recommends making your own nectar, fi rst by boiling four parts of water and one part of sugar, and then putting it in the refrigerator for a while.
