Anyone who has spent more than a few hours in a deer stand will tell about the time that a deer popped out of the ground, seemingly appearing from nowhere. These animals will frequently pause and raise their nose in an effort to smell while walking afield. They'll also stomp their hooves, direct their glance away, and then suddenly wheel toward the hunter, waiting for any movement.
