AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2017 • NEBRASKAland 39
They love the spasmodic, shivering
movement a deer will sometimes make
when it stops walking. They love the tiny
hairs on a deer's nose that can be seen
from the bow stand in their early morning
light, and they love when the first part of
a deer they see walking over a ridgetop is
antlers.
Now, I must be honest – I've never
frozen to the point where I had forgotten
I was hunting in the first place when one
of these moments has happened to me.
But because of the speed at which my
heart beats every time I see a deer in the
field, I don't think it's out of the realm of
possibility.
Which is why I'm counting down the
days to Sept. 1.

hunting's most exciting moments.

buck or a doe, certain moments in a deer
hunter's mind are etched forever.
