If you are looking for a relaxing getaway that offers a wide variety of activities, from biking, shopping at local boutiques or spending time at a vineyard, then this is the place for you. For bikers, Central City features a rail-trail of crushed stone more than 8 miles long. The Dark Island Trail is open year round and travelers are welcome to ride horses, mountain bike, walk, run and cross country ski. One of the most memorable features of this trail is its 1,072-foot long bridge that spans the Platte River just south of Central City. Take a nice walk and enjoy a beautiful sunset over the water from a bridge view. If you are looking to spend more time in town then plan to visit Positively You Boutique. Located in an old Tasty Sweet Shop, they offer special gift items and home décor with a personal touch. Pack up the car and get ready for a weekend well-spent of admiring what this small town in Nebraska has to offer. ■ Opened in 2007, the Dark Island Trail is an 8-mile long hike/bike trail that extends from just south of Central City to Marquette along a former railroad. The trail passes through farmland, densely wooded areas and over a long wooden bridge with spectacular views of the Platte River.
