42 NEBRASKAland • AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2016 TOP LEFT: The seeds of smartweed, a common wetland plant, are eaten by many waterfowl species, including teal. BOTTOM LEFT: The author, Rick Wheatley, walks through the marsh at County Line Waterfowl Production Area. OPPOSITE: Female green-winged and blue-winged teal are kept dry in a floating sled. Teal are some of the tastiest waterfowl that Nebraska has to offer. Remember to keep game as clean, dry and cool as possible for best table fare. County Line Waterfowl Production Area is located half in York County and the other half in Fillmore, 3 miles south and 2.5 miles east of McCool Junction. It totals 406 acres, including 224 acres of wetland and 182 acres of upland habitats. County Line Waterfowl Production Area
