T he dog-days of summer see most anglers waiting for the early- and late-day hours to wet a line, but a few die-hards will look for fish hiding under mats of aquatic vegetation when the sun is at its highest point. Some will venture into the heat on foot or two wheels, hiking and biking on trails throughout the state. Others are content to explore backroads in the comfort of air conditioning. But all will find the many botanical wonders produced during spring and summer and a scene that changes by the day. 48 NEBRASKAland • AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2016
