Nature Journaling
Great feature this month with Renae Blum
on discovering the outdoors through nature
journaling. I really enjoyed it.

Please inform Roger Welsch how much
I enjoyed his column in the March 2018
issue of NEBRASKAland. I have enjoyed his
humorous columns in NEBRASKAland and other
magazines, but I thought this one was particularly
sensitive and insightful.

Lake Wanahoo Fishing
I'd like to thank the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for
producing an excellent fishery at Lake Wanahoo. This fishery has
provided an amazing opportunity for many new metro-area anglers
and has even provided a rare opportunity for trophy-class northern
pike fishing in eastern Nebraska. Thank you for enacting a catch and
release only policy on northern pike that is allowing for this treat in a
heavily-fished region. Recently, Greg Ernst and I had the opportunity
to allow three young fisherman (Weston Walsh of Omaha, Blake
Yarborough of Elkhorn and Micah Spies of Elkhorn) to catch their
first-ever fish through the ice, and in addition to many crappie and
bluegill, they each had the opportunity to catch their first northern
pike. In fact, Micah, age 5, caught the first fish of his life, a nice
crappie, and then minutes later, landed a 14-pound giant of a pike!
What a way to start your fishing career. Photo shows Micah Spies with
his 39-inch, 14-pound second fish of his life.

Instagramer @life_unbound posted this photo: "It took everything in her
to sit on the side of the bank and watch John Paul fish. Normally she's
right there next to him, or swimming in the fishing hole – but that water
was just too dang cold."
