lthough a small town of a little over 1,700, Tekamah offers plenty of activities to entertain the road-tripper or weekend warrior. Whether you're a hunter, angler, camper, shooter, history buff or shopper, Tekamah will have you returning back for more. Hunters will find respite and excitement at the Pheasant Bonanza Hunt Club and Kennel. In addition to a top-notch dog training program, Pheasant Bonanza offers hundreds of acres of excellent upland game as well as waterfowl hunting. Or come out to enjoy their 20-station sporting clay course, 5-stand, trap or skeet, and then have lunch or dinner afterward at Roosters, an on-site restaurant and bar. Those looking to camp or fish should look to Summit Lake State Recreation Area, located just west of Tekamah. Summit offers the newly built Bob Eckdahl Campground with full RV hookups and tent camping. Summit Lake is also a popular destination for swimmers, kayakers and boaters. Anglers will find crappie, bluegill, bass, catfish and walleye in its waters. For something completely different, sign up for a training course at 88 Tactical Group. Designed for law enforcement, military personnel and civilians, clients can learn skills in reality behavior- based training, field medicine, bushcraft and receive information on the latest technology and gear. Self-defense and handgun training is catered to both men and women at all levels. For a history lesson, check out the Burt County Museum and the Historic E.W. Bryant House in town. The county museum is currently located at the E.C. Houston House, built in 1904 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Also on the National Register of Historic Places, the Victorian era E.W. Bryant House is a fine example of Queen Anne architecture and features state-of-the-art amenities for its time. It was built in 1890 by Edward W. and Rose Folsom Bryant; Mrs. Bryant's grandfather Colonel Benjamin R. Folsom was the founder of Tekamah in 1854. Stop by Master's Hand Ca ndles Company for candles, chocolates, fudge, flowers, home décor and gifts. Ladies, reserve a luncheon in their tea room where you and your girlfriends will be served a three course meal. Or have lunch and drinks at Right Next Door in town and check out Slim Profits gift shop, both owned and run by Susan Hansen. Then hang out with the locals at the end of the day for some food and drinks at Winner's Grill and Bar. For more information, visit Pheasantbonanza.com, 88tactical.com, and Mastershandcandles.com.
