Bluegill Through the Ice
B
luegill are the classic schooling
fish, so when you find some
bluegill under the ice, get a variety of
lures in front of them and you'll pull
out a good amount of fish. The larger
bluegill will hang out toward the
bottom of the schools, and they tend
to nibble instead of attacking your
bait. So be patient and set the hook at
the right time.
But do so safely. Only fish on water
that has at least four inches of clear,
solid ice before walking on it with
cramp-ons to prevent slipping.
