Time Well Spent What to do these winter months J anuary and February should not be waiting room months for the outdoor enthusiast looking forward to spring. It's the time to put on one more layer of clothing and venture into the great, snowy world. Following are five great things happening these months. More information on these and many other events is available on the outdoor calendar on our website, OutdoorNebraska.gov. ■ PHOTO BY JON FARRAR PHOTO BY JEFF KURRUS Learn to Ice Fish Game and Parks staff and volunteers will teach youth and adults the basics during two free events on Jan. 9 at CenturyLink Lake at Mahoney State Park and on Jan. 16 at Yanney Heritage Park in Kearney. The Mahoney clinic will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and the Kearney clinic will take place from noon to 4 p.m., with an optional classroom clinic beforehand. Equipment, bait and hot cocoa will be available at both events on a first-come, first-served basis. Jan. 9 Eugene T. Mahoney State Park Until Feb. 28 Statewide Jan. 16 Yanney Heritage Park, Kearney Until Feb 28 Hunting Bunnies With or without beagles, a late-season rabbit hunt can be the icing on a memorable hunting season. Due to limited pressure statewide, public accessible areas in both east and west offer chances at hunting bunnies.
