Nebraska's Venomous Four Massasauga Rattlesnake Timber Rattlesnake Copperhead Snake Prairie Rattlesnake Nebraska has four venomous snakes, including three species of rattlesnakes. Rare and only found in small pockets of southeastern Nebraska, the massasauga primarily lives in wet tallgrass prairies or near wetlands. Timber rattlesnakes are very rare and can only be found in southeastern Nebraska. They are woodland residents that rely on camouflage to remain safe and to find prey. Copperheads are the rarest venomous snake in Nebraska, living only along the Big Blue River in southern Gage County. Prairie rattlesnakes are the most common venomous snake in Nebraska, ranging primarily west of a north/south line around Kearney. They hibernate in prairie dog towns or in rocky outcrops.
