Time Well Spent
What to do in the month of March
M
arch can be an unpredictable time outdoors. Cold and windy one moment and
warm and sunny the next, nature enthusiasts should be prepared for indoor
and outdoor activities, which can be found at a number of venues throughout the
state. The following are five great things happening this month. More information
on these and many other events is available on the outdoor calendar on our website,
OutdoorNebraska.gov.

Migration
March is Nebraska's peak month for viewing
migrating birds of all species, most notably
sandhill cranes, numbering more than
500,000 birds, in central Nebraska. Yet other
bird species, including snow geese, come
through the state in large numbers. Viewing
can be done at state recreation areas,
including Windmill and Mormon Island, Rowe
Sanctuary and the Crane Trust Nature &
Visitor Center, or along a number of gravel
roads between Grand Island and Kearney.
